Fast Tree Skeleton Extraction Using Voxel Thinning Based on Tree Point Cloud

Tree skeletons play an important role in tree structure analysis and 3D model reconstruction. However, it is a challenge to extract skeleton from point cloud with complex branches. In this paper, automatic fast extraction method (FTSEM) based on voxel thinning proposed. method, wood–leaf classification algorithm was introduced filter leaf points for the reduction of interference generation, adopted raw quickly, breakpoint connection used improve connectivity completeness. Experiments were carried out Haidian Park, Beijing, which 24 trees scanned processed obtain skeletons. The graph search (GSA) same datasets. Compared GSA FTSEM obtained more complete time cost evaluated using runtime per million (TPMP). 1.0 s 13.0 s, 6.4 309.3 s. average value TPMP 1.8 22.3 GSA, respectively. experimental results demonstrate that proposed feasible, robust, good potential extraction.
